BigBand Networks BEQ6000 Universal Edge QAM Named Finalist for Light Reading's Best New Product of 2007

Distinction acknowledges company’s pioneering work on switched digital video and Modular CMTS solutions

October 9, 2007

Redwood City, Calif., Oct. 9, 2007—BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBND) today announced that the BEQ™6000 has been selected as a finalist for Light Reading’s 2007 “Best New Product from a Public Company” award. The award is presented to the company that has developed a market-leading product whose engineering and technical excellence enables the deployment of profitable, next-generation telecommunications services. The five finalists—also including Apple Inc.’s   iPhone, Corning Inc.’s ClearCurve Optical Fiber, Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.’s Flashwave 9500 Packet Optical Networking Platform and Soapstone Networks’ Provider Network Controller—were selected by a panel of Light Reading editors and Heavy Reading analysts.

As BigBand’s first “universal” edge QAM platform, the BEQ6000 is designed to deliver a wide range of video, data and voice services, and is optimized to support advanced technologies such as switched digital video (SDV), video-on-demand (VOD) and Modular CMTS (M-CMTS). BigBand believes it has deployed more edge QAMs for SDV and M-CMTS than all of its competitors combined. The BEQ6000 has been deployed by service providers in North America, Asia and Europe. The platform’s superior RF performance and reliability allow it to achieve what BigBand estimates to be the lowest total cost of ownership of any available edge QAM.

“The BEQ6000—BigBand’s third generation edge QAM—is built upon on years of engineering work and deployment experience,” said John Holobinko, BigBand’s vice president and general manager of cable IP. “We’ve designed this platform to deliver the best RF performance, total cost of ownership and reliability in the industry, and this distinction recognizes how important those attributes are to our customers.”

The Leading Lights Awards, launched in 2004, annually recognizes top public and private companies for outstanding achievements in next-generation communications. This year’s award winners will be unveiled at the Leading Lights Awards dinner Oct. 15 in New York. For more information, see: www.lightreading.com/leadinglights.
